Andalucía's best roads

We rolled out of Ronda before sunrise with full tanks and a loose plan: stay off the motorway and chase every road the map draws as a squiggle.

Day one ran east through the white villages, where the tarmac twists more than it straightens and every bend opens onto another valley. We stopped for coffee three times. Nobody complained.

By the time we reached the foothills the light had turned gold, and the gravel detour above Trevélez was worth every rattle. We dropped to 1.8 bar for the loose stretch and let the bikes find their own line. Two hours, eleven kilometres, zero regrets.

The Alpujarras spat us out near the coast, then the Tabernas desert did its best Western impression. The last day back to Ronda was all motorway-free, and the bikes finished dustier than we did.
